The Game of War (2007)

Installation of 'The Game of War':

Sculpture, video and performances: 26 min video A collaborative project to remake and reconsider Guy Debord’s 1971 military strategy game ‘The Game of War’ as a series of public performances with a group of artists and theorists. With accompanying sculpture (below) and instructional video (below). Including Dr Richard Barbrook, Rod Dickinson, Alex Veness, Ilze Black, Fabian Tompsett, Lucy Blake, Stefan Lutschinger and the late Elena Vorontsova.

The installation form of this project includes a number of monitors that display the Class Wargames, instructional video alongside a series of Xenotype photographs by Alex Veness.

For Debord, The Game of War wasn't just a game - it was a guide to how people should live their lives within Fordist society. By playing, revolutionary activists could learn how to fight and win against the oppressors of spectacular society.
